The intersection of jazz fusion and electronic music is not a well-known one, yet ALU (pronounced as if spelling it out) finds a home in its sound. His most recent album, Integral, explores different areas of this jazz-electronic amalgamate, ranging from ‘hifi lofi’ to bossa nova that uses the wrong kick sample while set at a tempo usually reserved for DnB. Soaring pads, synth solos, daringly rudimentary drum programming, and an almost tunnel-vision-like focus on jazz harmony characterize almost every ALU track. This set combines cuts from Integral with three new tracks from his forthcoming EP “If Then Maybe, Perhaps”.
