Making music since 1985
NUS Electronic Music Lab (EML) is a unique music performance group that creates, performs and promotes original electronic music. Members have opportunities to compose and produce original electronic music, remix tracks, and develop their sound engineering and production skills using the club’s own equipment. Collectively, EML’s musical output spans a diverse range of genres, including experimental electroacoustic music, ambient, 8-bit chiptune, trance, dubstep, house, hip-hop, indie electronica, EDM, breaks and more.
EML is mentored by Benjamin Ang, one half of Singaporean synthpop duo Cosmic Armchair, a certified Ableton Live trainer and an EML member himself during his student days. EML aims to encourage an appreciation for different forms of original electronic music in the local arts scene through their craft.
EML has also established itself as a strong collaborator, exploring new forms by working with dance and theatre. They partnered with NUS Dance Synergy for On The Shoulders of Giants, a full length work for NUS Arts Festival 2018 as well as tldr; for ExxonMobil Campus Concerts and gained recognition for their work with NUS Stage for The City Remembers based upon the poetry of Alfian Sa’at. With past performances at notable events such as the Baybeats Music Festival and the Singapore Night Festival, EML is definitely at the forefront of original electronic music in Singapore.
