Elyas Goh, under the artiste moniker LYES is an electronic musician whose interest in music has sparked an unknowing passion to explore more into the arts of music production and performance. Having wanted to play in a band since his youth years, LYES only turned into of EDM only recently when he discovered the uniqueness and different styles that the genre offers. LYES’s compositions are mainly influence by tropical and deep-house sounds which defines the style of music he creates. Unafraid of experimenting with different sounds and effects, LYES is able to develop his own original style to listeners where each song is produced through his artistic palette and musical vision. LYES continuously strives to explore new perspectives and take of the electronic music genre in hopes to better his musical craft and performance presence holistically.
The first time I ever heard of NUS EML was during Student Life Fair 2016. Prior to knowing what NUS EML was, i already developed an interest in music production and sought for a cca/club which catered to my interest field. The fact that I had super minimal knowledge in musical theory did not stop me from attending the introductory workshops and weekly lessons. No doubt, the initial journey was filled with hardships, having to understand the aspect of musical theory and learning how to navigate through the music software was definitely challenging as it took a lot of self-drive and initiative to better your own skills (either through self-exploration and messing around with the software or spending countless of hours watching video tutorials on Youtube). Nevertheless, I did not stop at it. I knew that if I were to just stuck at it, the many hours spent on making music would eventually payoff. The constant listening to songs of professional artistes i look up to and aspire to be someday, along with the seniors and other fellow members dedication to their individual productions gave me added motivation to overcome my own hardships. Today, I'm able to say that I would have never been able to create the tracks that i have today if I had given up when times get difficult, and that the journey of self-discovery and learning from friends will make the entire experience well worth it!
